PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for depressing color signal of a CCD camera is provided to naturally present the contour part of an image signal. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus and a method for depressing color signal of a CCD camera includes an edge detector(30), a subtracter(32), a color difference depression coefficient generator(34), a low pass filter(38), a color signal calculating part(35), and a first multiplexer(44). The edge detector receives a brightness signal of a continuous line and detects the edge of a horizontal/vertical direction from the continuous brightness signals. The subtracter subtracts an edge standard value from the edge in the detected horizontal/vertical direction and outputs the subtracted result with M(>0) bit data. The color difference depression coefficient generator inputs the M bit data, generates a color difference depressing coefficient between 0 and 1 varying constantly corresponding to the detected edge value and a predetermined gradient, or generates a color difference depressing coefficient having value 1. The low pass filter filters a low frequency component, outputs the filtered color signal. The color signal calculating part generates a first input signal and calculates the filtered color signal and a predetermined gain coefficient and the first input signal to generate a second input signal. The first multiplexer generates a depressed color signal.
