PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the change in mass of a weight in conformation to the vibration characteristic of an engine by superposing a plurality of plate weight plates in the axial direction of a shaft part. SOLUTION: A balance shaft 1 has a shaft part 2 and a weight part 3 having a center of gravity eccentric to the axial center of the shaft part 2. The weight part 3 is formed by superposing a plurality of sheet-like weight plates 4 in the axial direction of the shaft part 2. Each weight plate 4 has a semicircular form so as to be unbalanced, a through-hole 4a corresponding to the sectional form of the shaft part 2 is provided in the center of the semicircular form, and the through-hole 4a is fitted to the shaft part 2, whereby 17 weight plates 4 are mounted on the shaft part 2. According to this, in the application to engines having different vibration characteristics, this balance shaft can be conformed thereto only by a simple work of changing the number of weight plates 4 constituting the weight part 3.
