PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive horizontal type thin film magnetic head that has high performance with respect to a combined type thin film magnetic head, in which a recording head and a reproducing head are integrated. SOLUTION: A thin film magnetic head has a floating surface which floats or comes into contact opposite to a recording medium. A thin film forming surface of the head is formed in parallel with the floating surface. A pair of tip parts form a gap. A first magnetic body thin film structure, which constitutes a first magnetic circuit with the gap, is provided with a first magnetic body thin film structure, which has a magneto-resistive effect film in a middle section, a nonmagnetic body film 15, which is formed on a portion of the surface of the first magnetic body thin film structure, a second magnetic body thin film structure, which is magnetically coupled to the first magnetic body thin film structure through the film 15 and constitutes a second magnetic circuit having the gap as a magnetic gap, and a coil 12 which surrounds a portion of the second magnetic body thin film structure.
