PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the defective region of a pixel from being generated without reduction of an opening ratio, even when cracks are generated in a pixel electrode. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device has an active element substrate, in which the pixel electrode 8 of an upper layer is connected to an active element TFT(thin-film transistor) below an intra-layer insulating film through the contact hole 7a provided in the intra-layer insulating film below the electrode 8, and the contact hole 7a is made in an almost elliptic in shape and a long axial direction part 8d which extends from parts of the contact hole 7a to adjacent edges 8b roughly in the long axial direction of the contact hole 7a is positioned in the light-shielding region of the active element substrate.
