PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a platy light scattering unit capable of efficiently removing an attached organism from the platy light scattering unit by a minimum power without damaging the attached material such as a photosynthetic organism or the platy light scattering unit. SOLUTION: This light scattering unit 1 has both ends or one end of a string 2 fixed thereto. Since the string 2 is arranged in a shakable state, the string 2 continually drifts and moves by an influence of a liquid flow or a bubble flow when the platy light scattering unit 1 is installed in a culture environment. An attached material such as a photosynthetic organism tending to stick onto the surface of the platy light scattering unit 1 is physically stripped off by contact of the string 2 and the light scattering unit 1 functions as an apparatus for preventing the photosynthetic organism from attaching thereto.
