PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform all control processes and speed control processes during winding operation regardless of a relative speed between a bobbin and a pressing roll in contact with the peripheral surface of the bobbin by allowing a bobbin diameter to be determined accurately regardless of the peripheral speed of the bobbin and improving a winder with a driven winding spindle. SOLUTION: A winder is formed so that a sensor 4 is disposed at an interval relative to a winding spindle 3, signals to determine a bobbin clearance (a) between the surface of a bobbin 1 and the sensor 4 and a spindle clearance (b) between winding spindle 3 and the sensor 4 are generated by the sensor 4, and a corresponding bobbin diameter D is calculated based on a difference between the spindle clearance (b) and bobbin clearance (a) and using a stored value of a spindle diameter (d).
