PURPOSE:To satisfactorily correct the gradation of an area in a prescribed color by weighting the color feature amount values of respective picture elements included in the area of rectangular plane elements for gradation correction composed of plural picture elements, calculating the total sum of weighted values, and correcting the gradation corresponding to the total sum. CONSTITUTION:The signals of a solid-state image pickup device 1 are stored in an image memory 3 as image data for one picture. An address generator 2 generates addresses for accessing the image memory 3 for the unit of a rectangular plane element. A color identifying circuit 4 inputs the signals of respective picture elements and outputs the degree of belonging to the set of color feature amounts. A histogram arithmetic circuit 5 inputs the output of the color identifying circuit 4 and outputs the weighted total sum of the degree of belonging to the set of color feature amounts for each rectangular plane element in the image memory 3. That total sum is stored in a data memory 6. A block interpolating arithmetic circuit 7 inputs the data in the data memory 6 and outputs the arithmetic result. At a correcting circuit 8, a corrected output 11 is provided from a signal 9 and an output 10 of the arithmetic circuit. |
