PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a synthetic gas plentifully containing hydrogen and/or carbon monoxide by reforming a supplied hydrocarbon material with steam in the presence of a catalyst, and to provide a reactor system therefor. SOLUTION: This method for producing a synthetic gas plentifully containing hydrogen and/or carbon monoxide by reforming a supplied hydrocarbon material with steam in the presence of a catalyst comprises reforming the first flow of the supplied material with steam in a self-heating type step and simultaneously reforming the second flow of the supplied material with steam in the presence of a steam reformation catalyst. Therein, the steam reformation of the second flow is carried out, while the heat of a high temperature flow discharged from the self-heating type steam reformation is exchanged with the heat of the high temperature flow discharged from the steam reformation in the presence of the steam reformation catalyst. After the heat is thus supplied to the steam reformation reaction proceeding in the second flow, the flow discharged from the self-heating type steam reformation step is joined to the flow discharged from the heat exchange type steam reformation step.
