SOLID IMMERSION LENS AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a solid immersion lens which can be mass-produced at a low cost in an easy process without requiring press forming or polishing, and to obtain its producing method. SOLUTION: This solid immersion lens of an almost hemispheric shape is composed of a convex face 11a where light enters and a plane face 11b where light outgoes. The convex face 11a is a free surface formed by the surface tension of a lens material, while the plane face 11b is a transferred face produced by contact with a die having an almost flat face. The solid immersion lens is produced by allowing a glass material in a fused state to flowout through the opening of a nozzle and drop onto the die. The die may be a slider or lens holder.
