PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thick film type insulating coating which forms a coating film having an insulating property and a flame retardancy and is especially suitable for external finishing of building wall surfaces. SOLUTION: A thick film type insulating coating contains (A) a resin emulsion containing a carbonyl group-containing acrylic polymer, (B) an alumina silicate balloon having a particle size of from 10 to 1,000μm and (C) cement. Here, against 100 pts.wt. resin solid component of (A), from 25 to 400 pts.wt. component (B) and from 6 to 250 pts.wt. component (C) are contained. Furthermore, the resin emulsion (A) contains a hydrazine derivative, and after preparing a base coating by mixing components (A) and (B), component (C) is mixed immediately before use.
