PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a circuit scale and to record or reproduce still image data of a still image high in image quality together with dynamic image data by compressing and encoding the dynamic image data and the still image data with respective compression and coding systems for dynamic and still images and multiplexing the compressed dynamic and still images data to record them on a prescribed recording medium. SOLUTION: In a recording processing part 6, dynamic image data D1 or still image data D10 is generated from an imaging signal S1 by a camera signal processing circuit 10 and transmitted through a switching device 11. The dynamic image data D1 is compressed and encoded by a dynamic image coding circuit 12 and is packeted by a 1st packeting circuit 13. The still image data D10 stored in a still image memory is compressed and encoded by a still image coding circuit 22 and is packeted by a 3rd packeting circuit 23. Next, a multiplexer 14 performs time division multiplexing of outputs of 1st to 3rd packeting circuits 13, 17 and 23 and records them on a magnetic tape 8 through a high frequency modulator 18 and a magnetic head 7.
