PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the service life of an imaging apparatus by rotating and stopping a polygon motor efficiently thereby prolonging the service life of the polygon motor. SOLUTION: A decision is made whether a machine is abnormal or not, and if it is abnormal, a delay timer is turned off and a polygon motor is turned off. If it is not abnormal, a decision is made whether a write sequence is under operation or not, and if the answer is YES, a delay timer end is turned off and the polygon motor is turned on continuously. If the answer is NO, a decision is further made whether final developing color has ended or not, and if it has not ended, the polygon motor is turned on continuously. If the final color has ended, a delay time is set for stopping the polygon motor and then a decision is made whether next image to be formed is present or not and whether the delay timer has ended or turned on. If the delay timer is turned on, the polygon motor is turned for a specified time.
