摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-way type liquid crystal display device, capable of obtaining a display having a satisfactory quality, in which abnormal displays due to disclination generated by tranverse electric fields to be generated among gate lines and pixel electrodes of the liquid crystal display element are not conspicuous, even when compensating for a picture luminance by emitting an illuminating light from a light illuminating means arranged at the rear of a liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: In this device, compensation capacitance electrodes 32 provided on the inside surface of the rear-side substrate 22 of a liquid crystal display element 20 are formed in such shapes, that disclination generation areas due to tranverse electric fields generated among gate lines 30 and pixel electrodes 23 are covered, including areas where disclination lines D' are to be produced and an illumination light which is made incident on the disclination generation areas is interrupted by these compensation capacitance electrodes 32.
