PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably measure width, height and position of a measurement target object with out influencing the surface state of the object. SOLUTION: This measuring method is a method for measuring at least one of a width, height and position of a measurement target object 12 which has an unspecified surface by using a projection type distance-measuring sensor (a spotlight scan type range finder 10). The distance to the background of the measurement target object 12 (floor face of a measurement state 14 or the like) rather than to the measurement target object 12 itself is measured with the projection type distance-measuring sensor (the range finder 10), and the width, height and position of the measurement target object 12 is obtained from the measured value.
