PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-vehicle electronic controlling unit capable of improving the workability of exchanging at required time. SOLUTION: On a vehicle, various on-vehicle electronic controlling units such as an engine ECU 100, a brake ECU 200, and a transmission ECU 300 are installed, and various information memorized in each of ECU 100 to 300 is read out by a checker 500. The engine ECUs 100, 600 before and after exchanging manage control of the engine, and in an EEPROM within the engine ECU 100, 600, a VIN code as a vehicular characteristic information is memorized in advance. When the ECU 100 is exchanged with the ECU 600, the ECU 600 after exchanging writes afresh the VIN code read out from the engine ECU 100 before exchanging through the checker 500 into the EEPROM, an then writes the history of ECU exchanging into the EEPROM.
