PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a light-diffusing plate, optical element and liquid crystal display device which are excellent for practical use, which can supply linearly polarized light with decreased absorption loss of a polarizing plate, which improves luminance, which hardly causes problems of coloring, and which can be applied for a reflection type liquid crystal display device or the like. SOLUTION: The light-diffusing plate consists of a double refraction film having dispersed minute regions (e) showing different double refraction from the film and comprising a thermoplastic side-chain liquid crystal polymer having a side chain portion expressed by -Y-Z-. In the formula, Y is a polymethylene chain or polyoxymethylene chain branched from the main chain and Z is a para-substd. cyclic compd. In this plate, the difference of refractive index (Δn1) between the double refractive film and the minute region is >=0.03 in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction where the transmittance for linearly polarized light is maximal while the difference of refractive index is <=80% of Δn1 in the axial direction where the transmittance is maximal. |
