PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical recording and reproducing device which efficiently reproduces high density magneto-optically recorded information. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a light source 1 which illuminates a magneto-optical recording medium, a converging optical system 5 which converges the light beams from the light source 1 onto the medium, and a light receiving section 7 which receives reflected light beams from the medium. The system 5 has at least a first numerical aperture, which is directed to a parallel direction (LA) to the electric field vibrating direction of the light beams from the light source 1 and a second numerical aperture, which is perpendicular to the electric field vibrating direction (LB'). The first numerical aperture is smaller than the second numerical aperture. |
