PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of an overwriting prohibiting phenomenon of an optical disk by reusing the region registered in a secondary defect list(SDL) caused by a reversal phonomenon of an initialization layer and to improve an average seek time by reducing an access to an alternative sector. SOLUTION: A control means 9 of an optical disk device, which is capable of conducting an overwrite, conducts a test write process after illuminating erasable strong laser light beams by a write processing means 3 only for an SDL sector that is read from an optical disk 2 mounted on an optical disk drive 1, stored in an SDL storage means 6 and registered in an SDL 5. Then, information read from an SDL region by a read processing means 4 is verified. Then, the validity of the result of the test write is judged, the addresses of a test write success region are registered in an alternative release list 7 made in an alternative release list storage means 8 in the optical disk device, the addresses are eliminated from the SDL 5 and the SDL 5 is updated to form a new list. |
