PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the inertia mass of a valve system unchanged during normal exhaust operation of an exhaust valve by connecting an exhaust rocker arm to a brake rocker arm to make the exhaust valve operative for brake operation when a brake rocker cam oscillates the rocker arm. SOLUTION: The inertia mass of a valve system during normal exhaust operation in which an exhaust cam 4 oscillates an exhaust rocker arm 1 to operate an exhaust valve 6 will not be varied between the case of requiring the operation of an engine auxiliary brake and the case of not requiring it. An abutting means 19 is abutted on a contact part 16 to connect a brake rocket arm 2 to an exhaust rocket arm 1, whereby machining as a connecting mechanism can be facilitated, and during the operation of the engine auxiliary brake, the brake rocker arm 2 and the exhaust rocker arm 1 can be surely connected to each other, so that the relative distance between the contact part 16 and the abutting means 19 is controlled to control the timing of the auxiliary brake by the exhaust valve 6.
