PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a difluoroalkane-1-thiol useful e.g. as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals such as insecticide and miticide. SOLUTION: The objective compound is expressed by formula I ((n) is 3-5), e.g. 5,5-difluoro-4-pentene-1-thiol. The compound of formula I can be produced e.g. by reacting 1 mol of a difluoroalkane methanesulfonate of formula II with 1-5 mol, preferably 1-1.3 mol of thiourea of formula III in a solvent such as an alcohol at a temperature between room temperature and the boiling point of the solvent, preferably between room temperature and 80 deg.C usually for 1-30 hr, treating the obtained product with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and neutralizing with hydrochloric acid.
