PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reproducing property and stability of pixel structure in a high density part by using a gradation processing system, which prolongs the period of the spatial frequency distribution of a non-image part in the high density part so as to reduce the area of an unstable intermediate transition area. SOLUTION: Image data R, G, B outputted from a color scanner part are respectively sent to a color conversion part 131 to be converted to image data C, M, Y. Image data outputted from the part 131 are subjected to variable magnification processing by a variable magnification part 132 and given space filter processing with a spatial filter part 133. After then, a correction part 134 corrects theγcharacteristics of a printer. At this time, this is carried out referring to aγtable set each CMYK. With respect to an image signal of high density which is not lower than a previously set threshold, an intermediate processing part 135 prolongs the period of the pixel constitution of the non- image part so as to reduce an intermediate transition area to reproduce generation of stability and with respect to an image signal with density lower than the threshold, the part 135 improve the image by using halftone processing of higher resolution.
