PURPOSE: A device and method for detecting short circuit of a speed-indicating lamp of commercial vehicles are provided to detect breakdown of a speed-indicating lamp and show a driver, and to protect driving circuit by cutting off driving power in case of breakdown. CONSTITUTION: A device for detecting short circuit of a speed-indicating lamp of commercial vehicles, having a speed-indicating lamp and a device for detecting vehicle speed(10), is equipped with a device for detecting vehicle speed input(20) to detect a pulse signal to be applied to the device for detecting vehicle speed, a control unit(30) performing general control to operate the speed-indicating lamp by comparing change of the detected running speed and the reference speed, a driving unit(40) driving lighting of the speed-indicating lamp according to the signal of the control unit, and a device for detecting breakdown(70) supplying the reference signal through detecting of breaking of wire to the control unit.
