PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a lead-out electrode layer which is connected to a magneto- resistance effect element thick even when read track width becomes narrow and to make its wiring resistance lower. SOLUTION: A projecting part 3a is formed on a lower shield layer 3 corresponding to the read track width W and a step is formed on an insulating layer 5 between the area where an AMR element 6 is formed and the area where the lead-out electrode layer 8 is formed. Consequently, the lead-out electrode layer 8 can be formed thickly and even when the lead-out electrode layer 8 is formed thickly, the height of the step on the side of an upper shield layer 10 can be suppressed small. Further, the height of a photoresist pattern used of a liftoff can be made smaller, and so the read track width W can be made narrower.
