PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition which makes the detection of a fingerprint on an object to be checked possible without the necessity for a complicated pretreatment by incorporating a ninhydrin-containing compound into the same without substantially incorporating a nitrogen compound. SOLUTION: This composition contains a ninhydrin compound of the formula and does not substantially contain a nitrogen compound, In the formula, R is H or alkyl (preferably 4-8C linear or branched alkyl). Preferably, the amount of the ninhydrin compound in the composition is 0.1-10 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.-wt. sticky polymer contained in the composition. The concentration of the sticky polymer in the composition is preferably 10-90 wt.%. Preferably, a humectant (e.g. a polyhydric alcohol) is incorporated into the composition to promote the ninhydrin reaction. The composition is useful also for detecting an amino compound.
