PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact energy absorbing structure for an upper part of an automobile body capable of keeping a prescribed maximum load even when it is difficult to ensure an effective displacement amount, and obtaining the required amount of energy. SOLUTION: An impact energy absorbing structure for an upper part of an automobile body comprises a vehicular structure member, and an interior material disposed with keeping spaces from the structure member to the inside of a vehicle. The impact energy absorbing structure comprises a first energy absorbing element 16 disposed in the space wherein reaction force load is rising with increasing displacement of an impact element and reaches to an established maximum load, and a second energy absorbing element 18 provided along with the first energy absorbing element 16. The second energy absorbing element 18 is deformed before the first energy absorbing element 16 reaches to the maximum load, and finishes deformation to absorb energy.
