PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enlarge or reduce the original image of a film to a desired magnification, to store it in a storage means and to display it by providing a control means for controlling a projection optical system, so as to change the projection magnification of the image to the storage means. SOLUTION: This projection optical system is constituted of lenses 30 and 31 and two reflecting mirrors 40 and 41 arranged on both sides of the optical axis direction of the lenses 30 and 31. The device is provided with a CPU which controls the projection optical system, so as to change the projection magnification of the image to a spatial light modulation element(SLM) 10 which is the storage means. Then, the CPU changes the projection magnification by moving to advance/retreat the lenses 30 and 31 in a direction orthogonal to the optical axis with respect to the optical path of the projection optical system (desirably, in a direction parallel with the longitudinal direction of the film) according to information recorded in the magnetic recording part of the film 12. Since the projection magnification can be changed in this way, the original image of the film is enlarged or reduced to the desired magnification, stored in the SLM 10 and displayed.
