High strength composite buckle

A composite buckle is formed from metal and plastics components A metal male portion 20 is attachable to a strap and has an insertion plate 24 with upper and lower flat surfaces. A female portion 30 comprises firstly a metal locking body (formed from elements 33) which is attachable to a strap and has at least two locking legs 40 and secondly a plastics housing 31 which surrounds at least a portion of the metal locking body. The male portion 20 is inserted into the housing between the locking legs 40 which engage formations on opposite surfaces of the plate 24 (eg at apertures 25). The housing has flexible arms 34 each with means 35 locating between the legs so that pressure on the arms will separate the legs and release the male portion.
