A valve element for a solenoid valve and method of making the element comprises a leaf spring 11 attached to the flange 15a of a core 15 by ultrasonically welding a resin valve disc 13 to a resin holder ring 16. The spring comprises a peripheral ring 11b attached to a central hub 11a by a plurality of radial arms (11c, figure 1) wherein the ring has a peripheral seal 12 made of an elastic material and the hub has a central hole 11e and a plurality of connection holes 11f. The spring and core may be made from thin steel plate. Disc 13 and holder 16 sandwich hub 11a and flange 15a between them and are preferably joined by meltable resin projections 16b, that can be hemispherical or triangular, passing through holes 11f with the holder having a stepped section 16c for flange 15a. The resin preferably has a specific gravity of less than 1.9. A valve seal 14 is formed from elastic material around a central hole 13a in disc 13 and comprises a main body 14a, a holding section 14c interconnected by a small diameter section 14b. The seals 12, 14 are preferably fluorine rubber and are formed by vulcanization and moulding. |
