In a sliding bearing, a bearing metal layer is covered with a coating layer comprising a thermosetting resin as a base resin, and soft metal particles of Vickers hardness Hv 60 or less in an amount 0.1 to 10% by volume dispersed in the base resin. The soft metal is harder than the base resin and has a higher thermal conductivity, increasing the wear resistance and resistance to seizure of the sliding bearing. In particular, when the soft metal particles are of copper, silver, tin or zinc, the particles react with sulphur contained in a lubricating oil to form a thin metal sulphide film excellent in lubricity on the surface of the particles, lowering the coefficient of friction. Optionally, solid lubricant (up to 80% by volume) and particles of hardness greater than Hv 60 (up to 5% by volume) may be included in the coating layer. |
