A three point retractable seat belt system comprises a belt retractor 102 mounted on a vehicle, a restraint belt having a first end connected to the retractor and a second end connected to an interlocking buckle 106, said buckle being connectable to a tongue 110 mounted on the vehicle, and an adjustable tongue 103 slidably attached to the belt and connectable to a buckle 104 mounted on the vehicle. When in use the adjustable tongue may divide the belt into a shoulder portion 101 and a lap portion 105. The interlocking buckle may provide a first opening for receiving the vehicle mounted tongue and a second opening (803, Fig 8) for receiving the adjustable tongue, such that only one of the tongues may be attached at any one time. This arrangement ensures that the interlocking buckle must be connected to the vehicle mounted tongue before the adjustable tongue can be released for connection with the vehicle mounted buckle. |
