In an organic EL device comprising a substrate (1), an organic EL structure (2) on the substrate, and a sealing member (3) enclosing the organic EL structure, a mixture of a desiccant and a high molecular weight organic compound having a water absorption of up to 1.0% as measured at 23 DEG C for 24 hours according to ASTM D570 is coated to the inside surface of the sealing member (3). The device maintains its initial performance over a long period of time and can be manufactured through simple sealing steps at low cost.
