PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the avoiding performance of vehicle to avoid the emergent conditions when the vehicle is in emergency. SOLUTION: A steer ECU14 supplies command current normally in accordance with the steering angle and the velocity V of a steering wheel 16 to an auxiliary motor 38. The steer ECU14 supplies larger command current to the auxiliary motor 38 than in normal case when it detects an emergency signal outputted based on the relative distance L to an obstacle in front and the self velocity V. In this way, if the auxiliary motor 38 is controlled, a steering gear ratio becomes small and wheels are steered geatly by a small amount of operation of the steering wheel 16.
