PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-cycle engine capable of improving combustion efficiency by preventing a scavenge gas supplied into a cylinder from being emitted without combustion. SOLUTION: This two-cycle engine includes a cylinder scavenging passage 11 and a crankcase scavenging passage 10 as scavenging passages for supplying a scavenge gas into a cylinder 3. The cylinder scavenging passage 11 is a passage formed within a side-wall of the cylinder 3 so as to have approximately the same inner diameter as that of the opening area of a scavenging port 7. The crankcase scavenging passage 10 is formed by a gap 12 between the inner peripheral surface of the upper end of a crankcase 2 and the outer peripheral surface of a piston 4, and a communicating portion 13 formed between the upper end of the gap 12 and the lower end of the cylinder scavenging passage 11.
