PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent apparatuses from contacting with obstacles, workers or the like by a method wherein the apparatuses such as a clamping cylinder, a hose for actuating the clamping cylinder, electrical parts of the like are housed enbloc in a housing chamber formed in a cross frame part. SOLUTION: Above a platen 2, a cross frame 10 integrally having a bottom wall 10a, a rear wall 10b and a front wall 10c, which is lower in its height than the rear wall 10b. A housing chamber 13 is formed in the cross frame 10 by blocking the top surface and front surface of the cross frame 10 with a cover 12. The front part of the cover 12 is a closing cover 12b. A clamping cylinder is housed in the housing chamber 13 and supported on its bottom wall 10a. A rod 16 of the clamping cylinder is projected downwards from the bottom wall 10a. At the lower part of the rod 16, a pressing body 18 for pressingly fixing a work W seated on the platen 2 is provided. A dowelling device 75 for striking a dowel in a work W fixed to the surface plate 2.
