PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evaluate the combustion state of burner flame by subjecting the time fluctuation of flame temperature and the light absorbing/radiation spectrum intensity of combustion gas to frequency analysis for every field of view and comparing the frequency distribution of fluctuation for every field of view with the difference of frequency distribution between the fields of view. SOLUTION: In process 1, flame temperature and gas absorption/radiation spectrum intensity are calculated for each field of view from the results of spectroscopic analysis of burner flame emission. In process 2-1, evaluation values of respective fields of view are smoothed to determine mean level. In process 2-2, fluctuation in the evaluation values for respective fields of view calculated in process 1 is analyzed thus analyzing the frequency spectrum of fluctuation in the evaluation values. In process 3, difference in the evaluation value between reference combustion state and current state is analyzed along with the difference in the frequency spectrum of fluctuation between a reference value analyzed in process 2-2 and a current value thus diagnosing the combustion state, e.g. the flame holding state.
