PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for cooling the side wall of furnace bottom in a blast furnace by which the cooling protection of the side wall brick is strengthened without newly installing a cooling body on the side wall of the furnace bottom, without installing a cooling machine in a circulating course and without causing any trouble to cool the side wall even in the case of damaging the cooling machine. SOLUTION: In this cooling method by which the side wall 4 of the furnace bottom in the blast furnace is cooled by spraying water onto the outer surface of the side wall 4 and recovering the sprayed water to be circulatively used for cooling, the recovered water is branched 16, the branched recovered water is cooled 14 and the cooled water is returned 17 again to the circulating route in the mid-way of circulating the recovered water.
