PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a uniform coated surface by forming stably a curtain film by a method wherein blowing and suction of air to and from a substrate are executed in a space wherein a space to the substrate is isolated by specific dimensions over in a width direction of the substrate on an upstream side of a free drop landing part of a coating liquid. SOLUTION: When a coating liquid of a laminated state is freely dropped vertically downward from a lip 8, a coating liquid film 9 is formed, and the coating liquid film 9 is allowed to collide onto a web 11 and coated. Then, a space forming member 21 is provided on an upstream side of a free drop landing part 14 of the coating liquid film 9, and a narrow space is formed between the member 21 and the web 11 over in a width direction of the web 11. The air forming member 21 installs its opposed face 21b at a space of <=5 mm to the web 11. Then, in order to execute simultaneously blowing and suction of air on and from the web in the space, an air blowing means, an air suction means, and the space forming member 21 are integrally provided. Thereby, an accompanied air being adjacent to the web in high speed application can be efficiently removed.
