PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially producing a 6-(α- fluoroalkyl)-4-pyrimidone important as an intermediate for synthesizing an insecticide at a low cost in a high yield, by reacting a specific aminofluoro- unsaturated-caboxylic acid ester with formamide in the presence of a base. SOLUTION: This method for producing a 6-(α-fluoroalkyl)-4-pyrimidone of formula II comprises reacting (A) a 3-amino-4-fluoro-2-unsaturated-carboxylic acid ester of formula I (R1 is an alkyl; R2 is H or an alkyl; R3 is an alkyl) with (B) formamide in the presence of (C) a base (preferably, alkali metal alkoxides). The amounts of the component B and C to be used are preferably 2-10 mol per mol of the component A, respectively. Aminopyrimidine derivatives useful as an insecticide, a miticide, a bactericide, etc., are obtained from the compound of formula II.
