PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily position a disc type tool against a machining position of a work even while changing a position of the disc type tool such as a dresser. SOLUTION: An upright position of a dresser 18 is maintained against an outer peripheral surface of a grinding wheel 14 by changing a position of an axis of rotation of the dresser 18 in accordance with a position changing angleθ4. The dresser 18 is positioned against the grinding wheel 14 by displacing the dresser 18 along guide members 23, 24. In such positioning, an inverse kinematic equation based on robotic engineering is used. When the position changing angleθ4, a (z) axis coordinate value and a (y) axis coordinate value of a machining position are specified, displacement in the (z) axial direction and displacement in the (y) axial direction of the dresser 18 against the guide members 23, 24 are computed.
