PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new chlorella viable in a medium containing a specific amount of sodium chloride, higher in the whole chlorophyll content than the parent strain, capable of giving cultured fishes reduced in contamination with environmental pollutants, thus useful as a sea surface culture feed, aqua- feed, or the like. SOLUTION: This chlorella is a new chlorophyll-rich salinity-resistant chlorella which is viable in a medium containing >=1 wt.% sodium chloride and higher in the whole chlorophyll content than the parent strain, contains chlorophyll having such functions as anti-gastric ulcer action, antiallergic action, anti-cerebrovascular disorder action, deodorizing action, antimutagenic action, dioxins secretion promoting action, in high concentrations, therefore being useful as a food colorant, health food, functional food, medicinal material, sea surface culture feed, aqua-feed, or the like. This new chlorella is obtained as a chlorella mutant M-207A7 by mutagenice treatment of the parent strain of chlorella through ultraviolet irradiation and using a methanesulfonic acid ester or acriflavine. |
