<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a situation wherein a driver strongly abuts against a steering wheel when ahead collision occurs. SOLUTION: A steering shaft 5 is provided in an attitude substantially vertical to a car body floor 2. A vertical direction swing position of the steering shaft 5 is adjusted by a tilt mechanism 9 in a range of swing positionsα1 toα2. The steering shaft 5 itself is set so that is may take a swing positionα3 higher than the swing positionα2, but when a tilt control lever 19 releases a tilt fastening and is in a tilt-adjustable unlock position, the steering shaft 5 is regulated by a regulating member so that it may not swing further than the swing positionα2. When the control lever 19 is in a lock position, the regulating member releases its regulating action. When a head-on collision occurs and a large pressurizing force from a driver U acts on a steering handle 6 in a forward direction, a fastening force of the tilt mechanism 9 is forcibly released and the steering shaft 5 is swung to the swing positionα3.</p> |
