PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect ink in a head against adhesion, dry-up or external contact when a cartridge is removed by closing an open/close member constituting a print head protective means when the cartridge is removed from a carriage thereby protecting the head. SOLUTION: When an ink jet cartridge 1 is inserted into a carriage 9, a guide 11 pushes in a lock 7 for preventing inadvertent opening of a shutter 5 which can thereby opened. When the cartridge 1 is inserted farther, an opener 12 is fitted in a recess 6 and moved. Consequently, the shutter 5 is moved and a holder 4 reaches the lowermost layer of the carriage 9 when the shutter 5 is fully opened. When the cartridge 1 is inserted farther, the carriage 9 is pushed out of the holder 4 and a head 8 at the forward end of the cartridge 1 is projected outward from the opening. Finally, a cover 10 is closed and the cartridge 1 is secured. |
