PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain the sufficient adhesive strength by applying a powderlike thermoplastic resin which can be fibrillated to the surface of a metallic material having a specific surface roughness and thermally forming a thermoplastic resin layer on the metallic material while a fibril is generated in the thermoplastic resin through a rolling process. SOLUTION: When a metallic material coated with a thermoplastic resin having a sufficient adhesive strength is manufactured, the thermoplastic resin to be used is not particularly defined provided that it can be fibrillated, but is preferably to be a fluororesin, polyolefin, a liquid crystal polymer and the like. The powderlike thermoplastic resin which can be fibrillated as described is applied to the surface of the metallic material having at least 3μm 10-point average roughness. Next, a thermoplastic resin layer is formed on the surface of the metallic material, while a fibril is generated in the thermoplastic resin through a rolling process. After that, the rolled metallic material with the thermoplastic resin layer is heated at a temperature above the melt point of the thermoplastic resin to obtain the metallic material coated with the thermoplastic resin.
