PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of walking beam reducing skid mark, in a walking beam type heating furnace, in which fixed skid and movable skid are provided, and a steel slab is alternately held with the fixed skid and the movable skid and the steel slab is heated while advancing the steel slab in order at the holding time with the movable skid. SOLUTION: In the control method of the walking beam in the walking beam type heating furnace for heating the steel slab while advancing the steel slab in order at the holding time with the movable skid 2 by providing the fixed skid 3 and the movable skid 2 and alternately holding the steel slab 1 with the fixed skid and the movable skid, the steel slab 1 is alternately held with the fixed skid 3 and the movable skid 2 even in the case of timing when the steel slab 1 is not advanced.
