PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a drying time and prevent a weld from developing by a method wherein the flowing of a molding material in a cavity is eliminated. SOLUTION: A molding material, which is mainly made of paper fibers, starch and the water and prepared by kneading, is pre-formed in a shape, which is similar to that of a cavity 18 and is somewhat smaller than that of the cavity 18. After the pre-formed molding material 29 is a ranged onto the mold wall surface 20 of a fixed mold 1 held at 180 deg.C, the fixed mold is closed with a movable mold 5 so as to bring parting surfaces 15 and 16 tightly contact with each other in order to fill the molding material in the cavity for drying and setting the molding material. Thus, a molded product with no formation of a weld can be obtained in a short drying time.
