nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: unit designed for cladding fuel rods of VVER reactors by resistance butt welding has split parallel welding chambers that form working cavities. Unit is provided with valve installed in parallel with welding chambers and vacuum-producing facilities. Collet chuck for holding end of can in position is mounted in each welding chamber on can locking end. Additional chuck is provided between pneumatic chuck and mentioned collet chuck. Through channel of mentioned welding chamber has conical section. Inner cone angle equals mating angle of collet chuck. Mechanism for feeding plug to welding chamber has catcher. Centering device is made in the form of spring-loaded disks for axial rotation and radial displacement. Plug cradle is movable device coupled through lock with drive for ramming the plug to collet chuck and for its locking. EFFECT: improved quality of welding; improved operating reliability and enlarged functional capabilities of unit. 3 dwg
