PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a guanin compound high in yield by reacting an isolated diaminoformylaminoxypyrimidine in formic acid and, if necessary, by using any additive having a reducing function, under high- temperature and high-pressure conditions. SOLUTION: This method is conducted by subjecting an isolated 2,4-diamino-5- formylamino-6-hydroxypyridine(DAFHP) to condensation cyclization in a concentrated formic acid under pressure (e.g. 2 to 20 bar) at a temperature exceeding the boiling temperature of the formic acid, pref., at 110 to 140 deg.C, if necessary, in the presence of reducing additive (e.g. sodium sulfite or sodium dithionite), thus obtaining guanin(2-amino-1,9-dihydropurine-6-one). The molar concentration of DAFHP in the reaction mixture is pref. 1.5 to 2.8.
