PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting apparatus for a document shredder having a high torsional rigidity and whose gear apparatus can be manufactured at low cost. SOLUTION: This cutting apparatus 1 for a document shredder is provided with an electric motor 2 and a gear apparatus 20 installed in a closed gear case 5. The gear core 5 is produced at least partly by extrusion molding technique and comprises reinforcing ribs. The cutting apparatus 1 is further provided with two cutting rollers 9, 12 mutually interlocked and forming steps alternately in the diameter direction and driven by the gear apparatus 20, at least one scraping apparatus 14 attached to the cutting rollers 9, 12, a box part 3 opened in the opposite side to the cutting rollers 9, 12, and a gear case 5 constituted substantially of flat plates attached to the box part 3 by fitting. Consequently, the gear case 5 is provided with a torsional rigidity as a whole.
