PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drastically reduce the heat radiation from the upper section of a container, and increase the economical efficiency by providing a heat insulating material which is located on the surface layer section of a liquid in the container, and has the approx. cross sectional shape of the container. SOLUTION: This electric water heater is constituted by providing a cylindrical container 23 with bottom which houses a liquid 22, a heating means 26 which heats/hot-insulates the liquid 22 in the container 23, a lid body 28 which covers the upper opening of the container 23, and a heat-insulting plate 30 which is located at the surface layer section of the liquid 22 and has the approx. cross sectional shape of the container 23. By arranging the heat-insulating plate 30 on the surface layer section of the liquid 22, the heat radiation from the upper opening of the container can be drastically suppressed, and the electric consumption at the time of holding can be drastically reduced, and the economical efficiency is increased, and also, when the lid is opened at the time of a water supply or the like, hot steam can be prevented from hitting hand or arm, and the usability can be improved as well.
