The grating structure is composed of higher and lower refractive index regions which are positioned periodically with period P, wherein at least one of an amplitude, a phase, and a spatial frequency of the grating structure varies periodically with period L, and wherein at least one of the period L and the period P is chirped continuously over substantially the full extend of the grating structure.
